JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well-being of all patients in a given shift. Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the overall clinical nursing practice and administrative activities, including fiscal, material and human resource management during working hours. Participates in development and implementation of hospital policies and procedures. Maintains open communication with team members to improve performance and inform the Director of Nursing of any serious and unusual situations. Assumes responsibility of functioning as a regular registered nurse as needed.

ESSENTIAL
Administrative:
Integrates nursing units into the organization's vision and mission.
Provide leadership and direction during a given shift.
Support the philosophy, objectives and goals of the Department(s) and assesses areas of personal and professional growth.
Conducts all aspects of supervision in a firm, fair, and consistent manner.
Makes frequent rounds to monitor and ensure delivery of safe and quality care in all nursing units.
Demonstrates an ability to identify and resolve problems, uses initiative and good judgment to reach quality decisions.
Develops and maintains open lines of communication and timely transmission of information.
Demonstrates maturity and accountability for job performance.
Monitors adherence to staffing guidelines and decrease unnecessary overtime.
Participates in performance improvement activities, including data collection, development of indicators, and evaluation criteria.
Provides written justification of overtime.
Communicates with other House Supervisors pertinent information regarding issues identified during a shift for follow-up.
Assists in validating competence of team members who provide patient care.
Works with staff to resolve interpersonal conflicts.
Meet with the Director of Nursing as needed.
Assist in training new team members.
Assists in identifying inappropriate behavior and performance of team members below expectations and advise Director of Nursing.
Acts as a role model of professionalism.
Assists in developing, implementing, and revising policies and procedures.
Assess on going educational needs of team members.
Promptly and fully investigates and responds to complaints of patients, visitors, physicians, and staff through own action or appropriate referral.
Promotes a positive work environment which enhances employee and patient satisfaction.
Promotes opportunities for professional growth and development of staff.
Clinical:
Coordinates hospital services during a given shift.
Arranges admission or transfer of patients to and / or from other facilities.
Screen and coordinates admission of swingbed patients from other facilities.
Interacts on a continuous basis with other departments by directing activities toward problem resolution.
Revise assignment, directs and delegate responsibilities of team members to meet patient's needs.
Available and assists team members in completing assigned responsibilities when the need arises.
Serves a member of rapid response team and code blue team.
Floats to other areas as assigned; responds to floating requests with a positive attitude.
Assumes responsibility of a charge nurse when the need arises.
Coordinates orientation of new team members.
Supports and promotes excellence in customer/patient relations:
Courteous, diplomatic and tactful at all times. Maintains an effective communication with patients, visitors, physicians, co-workers and other team members.
Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills appropriate to the age, type and developmental stage of patients. Treats all patients, visitors and team members fairly and with respect. Demonstrates effective listening skills to provide support for patients and team members' concerns.
Supports and promotes Infection Control Program:
Demonstrates adherence to infection control policies as evidenced by in-service attendance records and employee practices.
Demonstrates correct hand washing techniques.
Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and uses it in practice.
Notifies Director of Nursing of real or potential exposures of team members.
Demonstrates knowledge of OSHA regulations: Complies with OSHA regulations regarding Blood borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
Complies with OSHA regulations regarding TB Exposure Control Plan.
Demonstrates knowledge of Hazardous Waste Management Plan: Appropriately segregates waste at the point of origin. Discards hazardous waste in appropriate bags, receptacles, etc.
Assures cost-effective and proper utilization of supplies, equipments and manpower.
Participates in meetings as required to develop good working relationship.
OTHER
Performs other duties as assigned to meet the organization s needs.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
